(Liberal) for Derby between 1883 and 1895.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1894.1 He held the office of Mayor of Durham between 1896 and 1897.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Derbyshire.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Derby between 1900 and 1916.1 He held the office of Mayor of Durham between 1910 and 1911.1 He was created 1st Baron Roe, of the Borough of Derby [U.K.] on 5 January 1917.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1
