Brig.-Gen. George James Playfair, 2nd Baron Playfair1 
He fought in the Russo-Turkish War in 1877, with the Russian Army at the battles before Plevna and Shipka Pass.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Artillery.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Playfair, of St. Andrews, co. Fife [U.K., 1892] on 29 May 1898.1 He was Brigadier-General of the Coast Defences between 1903 and 1906.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel between 1903 and 1929 in the 2nd Highland Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 On his death, his title became extinct.1
