He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Greandier Guards.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newark between 1885 and 1895.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 8th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl Manvers [U.K., 1806] on 16 January 1900.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baron Newark of Newark-on-Trent, co. Nottingham [G.B., 1796] on 16 January 1900.1
