He gained the rank of Captain in the Coldstream Guards.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Muckross, County Kerry between 1866 and 1880.4 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Kerry.1 He gained the rank of Major in the London Irish Rifles.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Kerry in 1881.2 He lived at Muckross Abbey, Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.1
