He was given the name of Archibald John Kerr Clark at birth.1 He was in the Diplomatic Service in 1906.1 In 1911 his name was legally changed to Archibald John Kerr Clark Kerr.1 He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Central American Republics between 1925 and 1928.1 He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Chile between 1928 and 1930.1 He held the office of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Sweden between 1931 and 1934.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1935.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Iraq between 1935 and 1938.1 He held the office of Ambassador to China between 1938 and 1942.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1942.1 He held the office of Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. between 1942 and 1946.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1944.1 He held the office of Ambassador to the U.S.A. between 1946 and 1948.1 He was created 1st Baron Inverchapel, of Loch Eck, co. Argyll [U.K.] on 5 April 1946.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1
