Sir Matthew Wood, 1st Bt. was born on 2 June 1768.3 He was the son of William Wood.4 He married Maria Page, daughter of John Page, on 5 November 1795.3 He died on 25 September 1843 at age 75.3
He held the office of Alderman of the City of London.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for the City of London.3 He held the office of Lord-Mayor of London between 1815 and 1817.2 He was created 1st Baronet Wood, of Hatherley House, co. Gloucester [U.K.] on 16 December 1837.3
