Barry Maxwell, 1st Earl of Farnham1

Barry Maxwell, 1st Earl of Farnham was the son of John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham and Judith Barry.1,3 He married, firstly, Margaret King, daughter of Robert King, on 15 January 1751.1 He married, secondly, Grace Burdett, daughter of Arthur Burdett and Grace Head, on 5 August 1771.1 He died on 7 October 1800.1
He held the office of Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas [Ireland] between 1741 and 1800.1 He was admitted to King’s Inn, Dublin in 1748 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-law.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cavan between 1756 and 1760.1 He held the office of Bencher of King’s Inn, Dublin in 1757.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Armagh City between 1761 and 1768.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cavan between 1768 and 1779.1 In 1771 his name was legally changed to Barry Barry.1 In 1779 his name was legally changed to Barry Maxwell.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Farnham, of Farnham, co. Cavan [I., 1756] on 16 November 1779.1 He was created 1st Viscount Farnham, co. Cavan [Ireland] on 10 January 1781.1 He was created 1st Earl of Farnham, co. Cavan [Ireland] on 22 June 1785.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1796.1

John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham1 
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cavan between 1727 and 1756.2 He was created 1st Baron Farnham, of Farnham, co. Cavan [Ireland] on 6 May 1756.2

From 5 August 1771, her married name became Maxwell.1 After her marriage, Grace Burdett was styled as Baroness Farnham on 16 November 1779. After her marriage, Grace Burdett was styled as Viscountess Farnham on 10 January 1781. After her marriage, Grace Burdett was styled as Countess of Farnham on 22 June 1785.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cavan between 1779 and 1783.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cavan between 1793 and 1800.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Farnham, co. Cavan [I., 1781] on 7 October 1800.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Farnham, co. Cavan [I., 1785] on 7 October 1800.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baron Farnham, of Farnham, co. Cavan [I., 1756] on 7 October 1800.2 He held the office of Representative Peer [Ireland] between 1816 and 1833.1 On his death, his Earldom and Viscountcy became extinct.1
