Thomas Robert Dewar, 1st and last Baron Dewar was born on 6 January 1864.1 He was the son of John Dewar and Jane Gow.1,3 He died on 11 April 1930 at age 66, unmarried.1
He was educated at Perth, Perthshire, ScotlandG.1 He was educated at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was managing director of John Dewar and Sons Ltd, whiskey distillers.1 He held the office of Member of the London County Council between 1892 and 1895, for West Marylebone.1 He held the office of Lieutenant of the City of London.1 He held the office of Sheriff of the City of London between 1897 and 1898.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tower Hamlets, St. George’s Division between 1900 and 1906.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor on 18 December 1902.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Kent.4 He was created 1st Baronet Dewar [U.K.] on 23 June 1917.1 He was created 1st Baron Dewar, of Homestall, co. Sussex [U.K.] on 20 May 1919.1

John Clifton was baptised on 25 January 1764 at St. Cuthbert, Lytham, Lancashire, England.1,3 He was the son of Thomas Clifton and Lady Jane Bertie.1 He married Elizabeth Riddell on 22 November 1785 at Felton, Northumberland, England.3 He died on 23 March 1832 at age 68.1
