He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1900 in the Thorneycroft’s Mounted Infantry.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1900, where he won medals with clasps.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the West Kent (Queen’s Own) Yeomanry.1 He fought in the campaign in South West Africa in 1915.1
