Henry Smith Wright was born on 27 June 1839.2 He was the son of Ichabod Charles Wright and Hon. Theodosia Denman.2 He married, firstly, Mary Jane Cartledge, daughter of William Cartledge, on 17 October 1865.2 He married, secondly, Josephine Henrietta Wright, daughter of Reverend John Adolphus Wright and Josephine Anne Law, on 9 February 1869.2 He died on 19 March 1910 at age 70.2
He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was admitted to Inner Temple entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for South Nottinghamshire between 1886 and 1895.1 He lived at Oaklands Park, Chichester, Sussex, EnglandG.2 He had two other daughters who died in infancy by his second wife.2
