He was appointed Knight in 1917.1 He held the office of Sheriff of London in 1917.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of London in 1924.1 He was created 1st Baronet Newton, of Beckenham [U.K., 1924] on 27 October 1924.1 He held the office of Member of the London County Council between 1931 and 1934.1 He was Commissioner of Income Tax, City of London.1
