He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Stuart, of Tillicoultry, co. Clackmannanshire [N.S., 1707] on 1 October 1710.1

Sir William Calderwood, Lord Polton1 
He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in July 1687.2 He was appointed Knight before 1707.2 He was styled as Lord Polton [Scottish Law Lord] in 1711.2 He held the office of Lord of Session [Scotland] in 1711.3,2 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2
