He was Chaplain to Swedish Embassy.2 He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1683 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He was Envoy to Sweden between 1683 and 1708.2 He was Vicar between 1694 and 1709 at Lastington, Yorkshire, England.2 He held the office of Dean of Windsor in 1709.2 He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1710 with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)2 He held the office of Bishop of Bristol in 1710.2 He held the office of Lord Privy Seal in 1711.2 He was 1st British Plenipoteniary to the Utrecht Peace Conference from 1712 to 1713.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1714.2 He held the office of Bishop of London between 1714 and 1723.1 On his death his Manor of Hewick-under-Bridge, near Ripon, passed to his nephew Christopher in Virginia but was eventually sold 1778 to 1st Baron Grantley, Baron of Markenfield.2
