He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn on 1 January 1661/62.1 He matriculated at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 30 March 1666.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ludlow between 1679 and 1681.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishop’s Castle between 1685 and 1687.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Charlton, of Ludford, co. Hereford [E., 1686] on 27 May 1697.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Shropshire from 1698 to 1699.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Herefordshire from 1708 to 1709.1

He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 6 July 1721.1 He was a Gentleman of the Privy Camber and Treasurer of the General Post Office.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Charlton, of Ludford, co. Hereford [E., 1686] in December 1742.1
On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1
