He held the office of High Sheriff of Staffordshire from 1704 to 1705.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Gloucestershire between 1708 and 1713.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Gloucestershire between 1715 and 1720.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1717.2 He held the office of Vice-Treasurer of Ireland between 1717 and 1720.2 He was created 1st Lord Ducie, Baron of Moreton, co. Stafford [Great Britain] on 9 June 1720.2
