John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, 1st and last Baron Islington1 
He was given the name of John Poynder Dickson at birth.1 He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Dickson [U.K., 1802] on 22 June 1884.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 On 12 January 1888 his name was legally changed to John Poynder Dickson-Poynder by Royal Licence.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Wiltshire in 1890.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wiltshire, Chippenham Division between 1892 and 1910.1 He held the office of Member of the London County Council between 1898 and 1904.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Scots.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1901.2 He held the office of Governor-General of New Zealand between 1910 and 1912.3 He was created 1st Baron Islington, of Islington, co. London [U.K.] on 27 April 1910.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1911.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 5 July 1911.4,3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1913.4,3 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry.2 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies between 1914 and 1915.2 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for India between 1915 and 1918.2 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1926.4,3 He was appointed Knight of Justice, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.J.St.J.)2 On his death, his barony became extinct.2
