William Turnour Thomas Poulett1
He styled himself as ‘Viscount Hinton’, and claime the titel of the Earl of Poulett after the 6th Earl’s death.1 On 3 July 1905 the House of Lord’s Committee for Privileges rejected his claims to the title of Earl of Poulett, on the grounds of his bastardy, even though he was born in wedlock. This is an interesting case of the House of Lords rejecting the ancient doctrine of ‘pater est quem nuptiae demonstrant’, which is that any child born in wedlock is always assumed to be fathered by the husband. While his mother claimed that he was the son of the Earl, no one including the Earl believed this.1 He lived at Medcalf Place, Pentonville Road, London, EnglandG.1
