     James Duff was born on 1 January 1728/29 at Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Alexander Duff, 1st of Hatton and Catherine Duff.¹ He married, firstly, Helen Skene, daughter of George Skene of Rubislaw and Helen Thomson, on 12 August 1755.¹ He married, secondly, Margaret Ogilvie Dunbar, daughter of James Dunbar, on 1 February 1772 at Banff, Banffshire, Scotland.¹ He died on 19 November 1804 at age 75 at Banff, Banffshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Helen Skene was born on 27 September 1734 at Rubieslaw, Scotland^G.¹ She was the daughter of George Skene of Rubislaw and Helen Thomson.¹ She married James Duff, son of Alexander Duff, 1st of Hatton and Catherine Duff, on 12 August 1755.¹ She died on 12 March 1764 at age 29.¹
     From 12 August 1755, her married name became Duff.¹

     Helen Duff was born in 1756.¹ She was the daughter of James Duff and Helen Skene.¹ She married Thomas Bell on 28 April 1782.¹ She died after 1803.¹
     From 28 April 1782, her married name became Bell.¹

     Thomas Bell married Helen Duff, daughter of James Duff and Helen Skene, on 28 April 1782.¹
     He was a travelling actor.¹

     John Bell was the son of Thomas Bell and Helen Duff.¹ He died before 1837.¹
     He emigrated to West Indies^G.¹

     George Skene Bell was baptised in 1788 at Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Thomas Bell and Helen Duff.¹

     Elizabeth Bell is the daughter of Thomas Bell and Helen Duff.¹

     Alexander Duff was born on 11 July 1758.¹ He was the son of James Duff and Helen Skene.¹ He died circa 1778.¹
