     General Sir Henry Augustus Montague Cosby was born in 1743 at Minorca, Spain^G.² He was the son of Captain Alexander Cosby and Ann Shorthose.¹ He married, firstly, Elizabeth Marsh, daughter of John Marsh.³ He married Ann Eliot.³ He died in 1822.²
     He gained the rank of General in the Honourable East India Company Service.¹

     Captain Alexander Cosby was born between 1715 and 1717.¹ He was the son of George Cosby and Ann Murray.¹ He married Ann Shorthose, daughter of Reverend Hugh Shorthose and Jane Hester Cox, in 1740 at St. Anne’s, Soho, London, England^G. He died in October 1759 at Surat Castle, Surat, India^G.¹
     He gained the rank of officer in 1743 in the 18th Regiment, in Minorca.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1745 in the Montague’s Ordnance Regiment of Foot.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1753 in the Honourable East India Company Service.¹ He held the office of Commandant of Surat in 1759.¹

     Ann Shorthose was born circa 1719.¹ She was the daughter of Reverend Hugh Shorthose and Jane Hester Cox.¹ She married Captain Alexander Cosby, son of George Cosby and Ann Murray, in 1740 at St. Anne’s, Soho, London, England^G.
     From 1740, her married name became Cosby.¹

     Reverend Hugh Shorthose was born on 4 May 1679 at Amesbury, Wiltshire, England^G.¹ He was the son of Reverend John Shorthose and Priscilla (?)¹ He married Jane Hester Cox on 30 August 1696 at Stanton Barnard, Wiltshire, England^G. He died on 4 February 1735 at age 55 at London, England^G.¹
     He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, on 15 March 1694/95.¹ He was Chaplain to Colonel Gower’s Regiment of Foot.¹ He was Chaplain to the Duke of Chandos.¹ He held the office of Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.¹

     George Cosby was the son of Alexander Cosby and Elizabeth L’Estrange.¹

     Elizabeth Ann Cosby was born on 18 October 1766 at Madras, India^G.² She was the daughter of General Sir Henry Augustus Montague Cosby and Elizabeth Marsh.^1,3 She married Thomas Oakes on 12 June 1786 at India^G.^1,3 She died on 22 October 1797 at age 31 at London, England.³
     From 12 June 1786, her married name became Oakes.¹

     Thomas Oakes married, firstly, Elizabeth Ann Cosby, daughter of General Sir Henry Augustus Montague Cosby and Elizabeth Marsh, on 12 June 1786 at India^G.^1,2 He married, secondly, Maria Lucy Gahagan, daughter of Terence Gahagan, circa 1803.²
     He held the office of President of the Board of Revenue.³ He held the office of Member of the Council [Madras].³

     Charlotte Jane Emma Cosby was born in 1746 at Bombay, India^G.² She was the daughter of Captain Alexander Cosby and Ann Shorthose.¹ She married Lt.-Col. Robert Jackson in 1772.¹ She died on 15 March 1834 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England^G.²
     From 1772, her married name became Jackson.¹
