He was educated at Hurstpierpoint School, Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was in the Diplomatic Service between 1968 and 2003.1 He held the office of Consul-General to Stockholm between 1987 and 1990.1 He held the office of Ambassador and Consul-General to Doha between 1990 and 1993.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1991.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Kuwait between 1996 and 1999.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Egypt between 1999 and 2001.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 2001.1

Sir John Boyd, 1st Bt.1 
He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 16 February 1736/37.1 Circa 1775 the estate of Danson was vested in him by Parliament, and he erected ‘a most elegant mansion of Portland stone and gave it the name of Danson Hill.1‘ He was created 1st Baronet Boyd, of Danson, co. Kent [Great Britain] on 2 June 1775.1
