He was secretary and treasurer of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway between 1826 and 1846.1 He was first secretary of the LNWR between 1846 and 1848.1 He was a director of the LNWR between 1848 and 1859.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lancashire.3 He was a railway projector and corn merchant at Liverpool, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4
