Major James Beverley Metcalfe1

Major James Beverley Metcalfe was born on 13 January 1888 at Norfolk IslandG.1 He was the son of Peter Herbert Metcalfe and Janet Anne Lucy Nobbs.1 He died on 25 April 1918 at age 30, killed in action.3 He was buried at Vinacourt British Cemetery, Vinacourt, FranceG.3
He was educated at The King’s School, Parramatta, New South Wales, AustraliaG.3 He graduated from Sydney University, Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaG, with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)3 He was a physician.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Major in January 1917.3 He gained the rank of in the 10th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1

Kathleen Janet Metcalfe1 
Founder and President of the Sunshine Service Club on Norfolk since its inception in 1961. She was also an avid bridge player.1 From 18 September 1937, her married name became Welsh.1 She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1965.1
