Philip Herbert, 5th Earl of Pembroke was baptised on 20 February 1620/21.1 He was the son of Philip Herbert, 4th Earl of Pembroke and Lady Susan de Vere.1 He married, firstly, Penelope Naunton, daughter of Sir Robert Naunton and Penelope Perrot, on 28 March 1639.3 He married, secondly, Catherine Villiers, daughter of Sir William Villiers, 1st Bt. and Rebecca Roper, in 1649.1 He died on 11 December 1669 at age 48.3
He was styled as Lord Herbert of Shurland between 1636 and 1650.3 He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset between 1640 and 1642, joint.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Glamorgan between 1640 and 1649.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wiltshire between April 1640 and May 1640.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Montgomery [E., 1605] on 23 January 1649/50.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baron Herbert, of Cardiff, co. Glamorgan [E., 1551] on 23 January 1649/50.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Herbert of Shurland, in the Isle of Sheppey, co.
