     Thomas Grierson, 2nd of Bargatton was born circa 1649 at Bargatton Farm, Balmaghie, Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, Scotland.1 He was the son of William Maxwell Grierson, 1st of Bargatton and Agnes Grierson.1 He married Jean Hamilton on 22 February 1677 at Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, Scotland.1 He died in 1689, murdered by John McMillan.1
