     Alfred Edward Borthwick was born on 22 April 1871.¹ He was the son of William Henry Borthwick, 15th of Crookston and Rebecca Cathcart.¹ He married Mary Simcoe Violet Pringle, daughter of Captain James Thomas Pringle, 11th of Torwoodlee, on 12 June 1907.¹ He died on 7 December 1955 at age 84.¹
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Scottish Sharpshooters.¹ He fought in the Boer War.¹ He gained the rank of Staff Captain in the War Office.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He lived at Burnhouse, Scotland^G.¹

     Mary Simcoe Violet Pringle is the daughter of Captain James Thomas Pringle, 11th of Torwoodlee.¹ She married Alfred Edward Borthwick, son of William Henry Borthwick, 15th of Crookston and Rebecca Cathcart, on 12 June 1907.¹
     From 12 June 1907, her married name became Borthwick.¹

     Ann Violet Borthwick is the daughter of Alfred Edward Borthwick and Mary Simcoe Violet Pringle.¹ She married Alexander Charles Stephen, son of Reverend William Stephen, on 4 November 1936.¹
     She graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G, in 1930 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)¹ From 4 November 1936, her married name became Stephen.¹

     Pedro de Alcántara Brasileiro was born illegitimately on 7 December 1825 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil^G.¹ He was the son of Dom Pedro IV de Bragança, Rei de Portugal and Domitila de Castro Canto e Mello.¹ He died in March 1826.¹

     Domitila de Castro Canto e Mello was the daughter of João de Castro Canto e Mello and Escolástica Bonifacio de Oliveira Toledo Ribas.¹ She married, firstly, Felicio Pinto Coelho de Mendonça.¹ She married, secondly, Brigadier Rafel Tobias de Aguiar.¹ She died on 3 November 1867.¹
     Her married name became Mendonça.¹ Her married name became Aguiar.¹ She gained the title of Vizcondeza de Castro.¹ She gained the title of Marqueza de Santos.¹
     She had three children by her first husband, and six children by her second husband.¹
