     Maria Amélia de Bragança was born on 14 December 1831.¹ She was the daughter of Dom Pedro IV de Bragança, Rei de Portugal and Amélie Auguste Eugénie de Beauharnais.¹ She died on 4 February 1853 at age 21 at Funchal, Madeira, Portugal^G, unmarried.¹ She was buried at São Vicente de Fora, Lisbon, Portugal^G.¹
     She was given the name of Maria Amélia Augusta Eugénia Josefina Luisa Teodelinda Heloisa Francisca Xavier de Paula Micaela Gabriela Rafela Gonzaga at birth.¹

     Mariota Hoppringle married, secondly, Sir William Borthwick, 1st Lord Borthwick, son of Sir William Borthwick, 2nd of Borthwick and Beatrice Sinclair, after 1458.¹
     From after 1458, her married name became Borthwick.¹

     James Borthwick was the son of Sir William Borthwick, 1st Lord Borthwick and Mariota Hoppringle.¹ He died before 1494.¹
     He lived at Glengelt, Scotland^G.¹

     Sir Thomas Borthwick was the son of Sir William Borthwick, 1st Lord Borthwick and Mariota Hoppringle.¹ He died after 1503.¹
