Admiral Sir John Orde, 1st Bt.1

Admiral Sir John Orde, 1st Bt. was born on 22 December 1751.3 He was the son of John Orde and Anne Marr.4 He married, firstly, Margaret Emma Stephens, daughter of Richard Stephens, in 1781.3 He married, secondly, Jane Frere, daughter of John Frere and Jane Hookham, on 3 December 1793 at St. Marylebone Church, Marylebone Road, Marylebone, London, EnglandG.3,5 He died on 19 February 1824 at age 72 at Gloucester Place, Marylebone, London, EnglandG.3,5
He was commissioned in 1766, in the service of the Royal Navy.5 He held the office of Governor of Dominica between 1783 and 1793.3 He was created 1st Baronet Orde, of Morpeth, co. Northumberland [Great Britain] on 27 July 1790.4 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1795.5 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1799.5 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Red.3 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in 1805.5 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Yarmouth between 1807 and 1812.3 He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in 1810.5
