Lt.-Col. James Howard Adolphus Annesley1 
He fought in the Tirah Campaign between 1897 and 1898, where he was mentioned in despatches, and won a medal with two clasps.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was again mentioned in despatches, and won two medals with eight clasps.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers.)1 He fought in the First World War, where he was once again mentioned in despatches, and was wounded.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.1
