He was admitted to Gray’s Inn on 23 October 1657.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Austen, of [Hall Place in] Bexley, co. Kent [E., 1660] on 30 October 1666, and ‘of Stagenhoe, Herts.1‘ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Rye between October 1669 and 1679.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Rye from 1689 to 1690.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Rye between 1695 and 1698.1 He held the office of Commissioner of the Customs from 1697 to 1698.1
