     James Campbell was the son of Alexander Campbell and Mary Cameron.1 He married, firstly, Jane Cameron, daughter of unknown Cameron.1 He married, secondly, Jane Dundas, daughter of Ralph Dundas of Manour and Helen Burnett.1 He died in 1745 at Fontenoy, Belgium, killed in action.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the 12th Regiment.1 He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745.1
