     Colonel Edward Richard King was born on 9 August 1808.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hon. Sir Henry King and Mary Hewitt.1 He married, firstly, Mary Thorn, daughter of William Thorn, in 1841.1 He married, secondly, Mary Ann Bertie Galloway, daughter of Major Thomas Leech Galloway, on 13 July 1869.1 He died on 16 December 1879 at age 71.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the 36th Regiment.1
