He was commissioned on 2 February 1929.5 He fought in the Second World War, including the North-West Campaign.2 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) and bar.2 He gained the rank of Colonel on 10 May 1951.5 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1955.2 He retired from the military on 31 March 1957, with the rank of Honorary Brigadier, late of the West Yorkshire Regiment.5 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Holy Sepulchre (K.H.S.)2
