Richard Barry1 
On 10 April 1581 he should have become the 5th Viscount Barry and 18th Lord Barry, but he was passed over in the succession because he was deaf and dumb.1

David Barry, 5th Viscount Barry1 
He gained the title of Viscount Buttevant. He succeeded as the 18th Lord Barry [I., c. 1261] on 10 April 1581.1 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Barry [I., 1541] on 10 April 1581.1 Before 1599 he joined Desmond’s rebellion, but then abandoned the rebel cause.1 In 1602 he commanded 1,600 men.1 On 15 November 1602 he was pardoned.1 He held the office of Member of the Council of the province of Munster on 20 May 1615.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2
