He held Sudeley and Toddington, Gloucestershire, and Chilvers Cotton, Warwickshire.2 He was described by contemporaries as Comes (possibly a courtier of comital rank but without a territorial earldom.)2 Circa 1050 he was employed at a high level against a Welsh incursion into England and revolts by various earls throughout the 1050s, although on one occasion he and his soldiers ran away before the fighting began.2
