     He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, England.¹ He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He gained the rank of Major in the Grenadier Guards.¹ He was Adjutant between 1977 and 1979.¹ He was Equerry to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh between 1979 and 1981.¹ He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1980 entitled to practise as a barrister.¹ He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1983.¹
