     Sir Edward Ebenezer Kay was born on 2 July 1822.1 He was the son of Robert Kay and Hannah Phillips.2 He married Mary Valence French, daughter of Reverend William French, on 2 April 1850.1 He died in 1897.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1847 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1847 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 1866.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Lord Justice Appeal.1 He held the office of High Court Judge, Chancery Division in 1881.1
