Thomas Birch1
He was Carpenter (1881 – unemp.)1 Anecdotes:
It took Jane Milner and Monica Taylor over 3 years to find his death! She found the deed of indenture (sale) of the cottage in Appletreewick for 1915. In the deed of indenture it states that Thomas died in 1915 in South Wales. The PRO had his death certificate, and the informant was one John Burridge, and it states that he is the brother-in-law of Thomas. However, it stated in the deed of Indenture that Thomas was a Bachelor, and in previous census where we have found him, it indicated he was single. So whether he married late in life and his wife died, or whether he lived common law, or whether John Burridge lied, is something for someone else to find out.
The cottage at time of sale was occupied by a Irving Hargreaves; formerly was occupied by Thomas Lumb. The deed basically said that the cottage rents were to go to Thomas Birch junior and to his widow if he died. He died a bachelor on Oct 19, 1915. It was sold for 230 pounds to a David Wellock.
