Adam Maitland of Dundrennan1

     Adam Maitland of Dundrennan was born on 28 April 1764.1 He was the son of David Maitland of Barcaple and Mary Currie.1 He married Stuart McWhan, daughter of Joseph McWhan.1 He died on 20 July 1843 at age 79.1
     He was with the Honourable East India Company Service.1 On 31 March 1800 he inherited Dundrennan from his wife’s uncle, Dr. Thomas Cairns.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court in 1806.1
