     He was educated at Bedford School, Bedford, Bedfordshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at Eastman’s, Southsea, Hampshire, England.¹ He was commissioned in 1902 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Navy.¹ He was Commander of the Destroyers, Grand Fleet.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1923.¹ He held the office of Aide de Camp to HM King George VI in 1940.¹ He gained the rank of Commander in 1942 in the Home Fleet Destroyer Flotillas.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1942.¹ He was Commander of the 10th Cruiser Squadron in 1943.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1943.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1944.¹ He graduated from Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1944 with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.)¹ He was Commander-in-Chief of the Atlantic Fleet in 1944.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1945.¹ He was awarded the Grand Cross, Royal Order of George I of Greece with swords.¹ He was Commander-in-Chief of the Plymouth Station in 1947.¹ He was appointed Commander, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (C.St.J.)¹ He was awarded the Order of Suvorov of the U.S.S.R.¹

     Ethel Constance Shaw is the daughter of R H Shaw.² She married Admiral Sir Robert Lindsay Burnett, son of John Alexander Burnett, 7th of Kemnay and Charlotte Susan Forbes-Gordon, on 12 July 1915.¹
     Her married name became Burnett.

     Lettie Muriel Burnett is the daughter of John Alexander Burnett, 7th of Kemnay and Charlotte Susan Forbes-Gordon.²
     She was a nun with Convent Sacred Heart.¹

     Irene Dorothy May Burnett is the daughter of John Alexander Burnett, 7th of Kemnay and Charlotte Susan Forbes-Gordon.² She married Quentin Hugh Innes Irvine, son of Francis Hugh Forbes Irvine, 21st of Drum and Mary Agnes Ramsay of Barra and Straloch, on 2 February 1915.¹
     From 2 February 1916, her married name became Irvine. She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1963.²

     Margaret Christina MacMillan is the daughter of Alexander MacMillan.¹ She married Alexander Irvine.¹
