Thomas Burnett, 2nd of Kemnay1 
He was a member of the Court circle of Electress Sophia of Hanover, (mother of King George I), as which discussed various intellectual questions of the day with, among others, the mathematician and philosopher Leibniz.1 In 1702 at Bastille, Paris, France, he was arrested on the prompting of Jacobites at Court of titular James III and VIII (the Old Pretender), which was situated at St. Germains, near Paris, and imprisoned 18 months in the Bastille, but released through intervention of the Electress and her niece, the Duchess of Orleans.1
