He married Franziska Romana Theresia Notger Prinzessin zu Oettingen-Oettingen und Oettingen-Spielberg, daughter of Alois Philipp Joseph Maria Notger Fürst zu Oettingen-Oettingen und Oettingen-Spielberg and Elisabeth Gabriele Gräfin zu Lynar, on 8 January 1971 at Öttingen, Germany^G, in a civil marriage. They were remarried in a religious ceremony on 19 January 1971.
     He was given the name of Ferdinand Michael Carl Emich Peter Philipp Johannes at birth. He succeeded as the 9th Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Bartenstein in 1950.
