     He held the office of Esquire to Mary, Queen of Scots.¹

     Peter Cairnis is the son of William Cairnis of Orchardton and Margaret Agnew.¹
     He was ancestor of the Cairns of Kipp.¹

     Henry Cairnis is the son of William Cairnis of Orchardton and Margaret Agnew.¹
     He was ancestor of the Cairns of Torr.¹

     John Cairnis of Cults was born in 1530.² He was the son of John Cairnis of Cults and Margaret McCulloch.¹ He married Margaret Hamilton.¹ He died in 1603.¹
     He sold most of his estates.¹

     Margaret Hamilton married John Cairnis of Cults, son of John Cairnis of Cults and Margaret McCulloch.¹
     Her married name became Cairnis.¹
