     Thomas Bayly held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Derby.¹

     Major William Bowater was born on 24 August 1755.¹ He was the son of Richard Bowater and Mary Bayly.¹ He married Maria Cole, daughter of Captain Thomas Cole, on 23 October 1803.¹ He died on 15 March 1829 at age 73.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Marines.¹ He lived at Horsley Court, England^G.¹
     He had two younger sons and six daughters.¹

     Maria Cole was the daughter of Captain Thomas Cole.¹ She married, firstly, Major William Bowater, son of Richard Bowater and Mary Bayly, on 23 October 1803.¹ She married, secondly, William Thompson on 18 May 1830.¹ She died on 24 January 1844.¹
     From 23 October 1803, her married name became Bowater.¹ From 18 May 1830, her married name became Thompson.¹
