Admiral Sir Hugh Cloberry Christian1 
He gained the rank of officer in 1761 in the Royal Navy, serving in the Mediterranean for the next ten years.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 8 December 1778.1 He was Equerry to HRH The Duke of Clarence.2 He fought in the Battle of Martinique in 1780.2 He fought in the Battle of St. Kitts and Dominica in 1782.2 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1795.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the forces in the West Indies in 1796.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) on 17 February 1796.2 In 1798 he had a peerage conferred on him, for which he chose the title of Lord Ronaldsway, in honour of his illustrious forebear William “Illiam Dhone” Christian. However, he died before the patent reached him. He also received the thanks of Parliament, and had a Sword of Honour voted him, which was sent to his wife.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the forces at the Cape of Good Hope in 1798.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3

He was commissioned circa 1792 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1800, for the gallant way he commanded a division of boats at the Siege of Genoa on 25 January.1 He gained the rank of Acting Captain in October 1804, for meritorious service in the Bay of Bengal.1 He gained the rank of Commander on 21 March 1805.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 30 January 1806.1 He gained the rank of Commodore in 1824.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral on 28 June 1838.1
