He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1888 entitled to practise as a Barrsiter-at-Law.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kent, St. Austine’s Division between 1911 and 1918.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kent, Canterbury Division between 1918 and 1927.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs between 1922 and 1924.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs between 1924 and 1925.1 He held the office of Finance Secretary to the Treasury between 1925 and 1927.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1927.2 He held the office of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster between 1927 and 1929.2 He was created 1st Baron Cushendun, of Cushendun, co. Antrim [U.K.] on 7 November 1927.1
