Gilbert de Umfreville, 8th Earl of Angus1 
In 1265 he joined the uprising of the Barons against the King.1 He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Angus [S., c. 1115] circa June 1267.1 In 1281 he was one of the Nobles who swore to ratify the marriage of Margaret of Scotland to Eric, King of Norway.1 He gained the title of 1st Earl of Angus [England] on 28 June 1283.2 He held the office of Governor of Dundee, Forfar Castle and Angus in 1291.1 In 1291 he refused to surrender Angus to England.1 He was created 1st Lord Umfreville [England] on 24 June 1295.1
