Virginia Carington was born on 23 June 1946.3 She is the daughter of Peter Alexander Rupert Carington, 6th Baron Carrington of Upton and Iona Ellen McClean.1 She married Henry Edward Cubitt, 4th Baron Ashcombe, son of Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and Sonia Rosemary Keppel, on 1 January 1973 at Kensington Register Office, Kensington, London, EnglandG.1,4 She and Henry Edward Cubitt, 4th Baron Ashcombe were divorced in 1979.1
After her marriage, Hon. Virginia Carington was styled as Baroness Ashcombe on 1 January 1973. From 1 January 1973, her married name became Cubitt. In 1979 her name was legally changed to Carington.3 She was Assistant Master to the Household of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.5 She lived in 2003 at 5 Rutland Gate Mews, London, EnglandG.3 She was appointed Lieutenant, Royal Victorian Order (L.V.O.) in 2012.5

John Hugo Russell, 3rd Baron Ampthill was born on 4 October 1896.1 He was the son of Arthur Oliver Villiers Russell, 2nd Baron Ampthill and Lady Margaret Lygon.1 He married, firstly, Christabel Hulme Hart, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Hart and Blanche Anstruther Erskine, on 18 October 1918 at St. Jude’s, Kensington, London, EnglandG.3 He and Christabel Hulme Hart were divorced in 1931.4 He married, secondly, Sibell Faithfull Lumley, daughter of Thomas Wilkinson Lumley, on 22 February 1937.3 He married, thirdly, Adeline Mary Constance Hone, daughter of Reverend Henry Evelyn Hone and Adeline Mabel Ellen Lane, on 24 July 1948.3 He died on 3 June 1973 at age 76.3
He fought in the First World War.4 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.4 In April 1922 he petitioned for divorce on account of his wife’s adultery, with misconduct alleged as early as November 1918.3 In 1923 he again petitioned for a divorce, and disclaimed paternity of his son, Geoffrey. The petition was overturned on appeal in 1924.3 In 1925 his wife was granted a declaration that his son was legitmate (although this seems doubtful given the various claims.)3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Ampthill, of Ampthill, co. Bedford [U.K., 1881] on 7 July 1935.3 He fought in the Second World War.4 He was awarded the Officer, U.S. Legion of Merit.4 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1945 avec palmes.4 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1945.4
