Gerald Paul Joseph Cajetan Carmel Antony Martin Strickland, 1st and last Baron Strickland1 

Gerald Paul Joseph Cajetan Carmel Antony Martin Strickland, 1st and last Baron Strickland was born on 24 May 1861.3 He was the son of Commander Walter Strickland and Donna Maria Aloysia Paula Bonici-Mompalao.3,4 He married, firstly, Lady Edeline Sackville, daughter of Reginald Windsor Sackville, 7th Earl De La Warr and Hon. Constance Mary Elizabeth Cochrane-Wishart-Baillie, on 26 August 1890.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Hulton, daughter of Edward Hulton, on 31 August 1926.3 He died on 22 August 1940 at age 79.1
He was educated at Oscott College, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Malta Militia.3 He succeeded as the 6th Conte della Catena [Malta] in 1875, by a Privy Council decision, 6 February 1882.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)3 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1887 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.3 He was Assistant Secretary to Malta in 1888.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1889.3 He held the office of Chief Secretary of Malta between 1889 and 1902.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1897.3 He held the office of Governor of the Leeward Islands between 1902 and 1904.3 He held the office of Governor of Tasmania between 1904 and 1909.3 He held the office of Governor of Western Australia between 1909 and 1913.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1913.3 He held the office of Governor of New South Wales between 1913 and 1917.3 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) [Malta] between 1921 and 1932.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lancashire between 1924 and 1928, Lancaster Division.3 He held the office of Minister of Police [Malta] between 1927 and 1932.3 He held the office of Minister of Justice [Malta] between 1927 and 1932.3 He was created 1st Baron Strickland, of Sizreagh Castle, co. Westmorland [U.K.] on 19 January 1928.3
On his death, the Barony of Strickland became extinct.3
