He was appointed Knight of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.G.St.J.)1 He was chairman and managing director of John Readhead and Sons Ltd, shipbuilders.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Durham.1 He was created 1st Baronet Readhead, of Westoe, South Shields, co. Durham [U.K.] on 20 January 1922.1

He was educated at Repton School, Repton, Derbyshire, England.3 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Readhead, of Westoe, South Shields, co. Durham [U.K., 1922] on 20 November 1926.1 He was educated at Faraday House Engineering College, London, EnglandG.3 He was an electrical engineer.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1943.1 On his death his baronetcy became extinct.2
