     He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Scots Guards.¹ He was appointed Knight, Sovereign Military Order of Malta.¹ He lived in 2003 at Boreland House, Lockerbie, Dumfries-shire, Scotland^G.¹
